Charles Stimpson, born about 1825.

Please help me research anything about my Great Great Grandfather, Charles. Last record dated March 1884 when he attended his son John Thomas Stimpson' wedding in Barbados. Charles Stimpson, father, recorded his profession as Commercial Traveler.
Any help on research or resources would be much appreciated. Thanks, Andrew Pyper.

You say "born about 1925" but then that he attended his son's wedding in 1884.

Do you mean born c1825 or some other year - & what's the source for that?

Any idea where in England he was from, or married, or when & where his child(ren) were born?

You may want to amend his birthyear to 1825.  How have you gauged his birthyear as 1825?

Where was John Thomas Stimpson born and when?

How do you know he actually attended his son's wedding in 1884?  Did he sign any document at that time?

The 1861 has a John Thomas Stimpson b 1860 Berkshire but father Charles b 1823  is a grocers porter and Wesleyan preacher

I see that Charles was:

28 b Fyfield Berkshire in 1851
38 b Fyfield Berkshire in 1861
48 b Fyfield Berkshire in 1871
58 b Fyfield Berkshire in 1881
68 b Fyfield Berkshire in 1891
79 b Fyfield Berkshire in 1901 (Grocer's carman retd)

and died aged 90 in Abingdon district, Sep qtr 1913.

I wonder therefore why you say he's last recorded in 1884?  The Abingdon/Berkshire family does seem to be the right one.  John Thomas Stimpson married Alice Eliza Spencely, 5 Mar 1884 Christ Church, Barbados and appears with her in English censuses thereafter.

Charles Stimpson & Catherine Smart, Dec qtr 1851 Abingdon 6 257 (she d. Mar qtr 1883 Abingdon, aged 58)

Your Johns Birth Reg has his Mothers name as Smart (you may already know this) but helps confirm his the info as posted by others.

GRO Reference: 1860  M Quarter in ABINGDON  Volume 02C  Page 286

Looks like he may have exaggerated his Fathers occp on the 1884 info.

1861 Charles has his Brother GEORGE born c 1829 Fyfield, Berkshire living with him and his Family.

This appears to be George with his Parents in 1851 in Fyfield;
William Stimpson 58 born Tubney
Ann Stimpson 55 born North Moor, Oxfordshire
George Stimpson 23 born Fyfield

Fyfield records are not easy to find on line.

But as Tree has Charles born 22 Nov 1822 • Fyfield, Berkshire to William/Ann
(I cant confirm this)

So as said earlier a Marriage Cert of Charles would confirm his Fathers name/occp.

Gosh just found a Homer Simpson in the 1841 Census!
