Age Descrepancy and the census

I found an interesting site today on the 1833 Factory Act.

This is seen as just one of the many factors on why the ages of our ancestors don't add up on the subsequent census.  I was thinking that the descrepancy I was seeing was between 1851 and 1861 for an enumaration reason BUT a quick and dirty look maybe because the people where passing the age of 16...worth investigating!

The gendocs site (http://www.gendocs.demon.co.uk/abbrcen.html) has a points to remember bit which is excellent.  I like this bit...

"One farm labourer, who lived in a shed in the farmer's garden, described his relationship to the head of household as 'friendly'!"

Moral - When searching for your ancestors on a census film and they are not at the address you expect them to be at, always check the folios that appear at the back of the book.
