Finding Property Owners

I am trying to confirm the employer of a groom who lived in the Vauxhall area of Nantwich, a small goup of houses, in 1883. He would have been lodging there and I think that there is a possibility that it could have been in a house owned by his employer, as another groom is lodging there later,  which would be a confirmation of his employer's suspected identity. It is easy to find occupiers in the censuses, but is there a means of finding details of old property owners, preferably on-line? I've asked FindMyPast, who have no idea. There must have been rate books with details of property owners, possibly now in the Records' Office, which I am unable to vist.

Maybe the resident of Dorfold Hall, in nearby Acton?
Or Henhull Hall?
Or one of the many Salt Merchants living in the town?

Worth searching the newspapers on Findmypast, depending what you know, for adverts for grooms, addresses, possible suspected employers name etc. The Nantwich guardian in online there.

Thanks for the reponses. A problem is that I don't know which particular house it is in the area where there are quite a number. I've come to the conclusion that the only solution is to hope that a rate book for the time, which should list property owners, is available. I hope the Chesire Records Office might hold one and I'm awaiting a reply to an enquiry.
