help reading picture frame handwriting
« on: Sunday 23 June 19 19:44 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can someone please help me to translate the handwriting on the back of a picture frame into English? Or let me know what language is it? Please see the attached picture.

Thank you!

My first impression is that of an address for a Mme (madame) PuoXXXX in Macao (Macau?), but so far no luck mapping any of the other words...

I studied Russian decades ago and can't remember much, but this is written in the Cyrillic alphabet and the last word is Sevastopol (initial letter corrected).  The word starting with 'X' is a transliteration of Holst, I think.

If the last word is Cevastopol then it maybe Sevastopol a largest city on the Crimean Peninsula and a major Black Sea port.  ;D

Sorry, my mistake :-[

Of course it's 'S' in our alphabet - told you it'd been a long time :D

The word that looks like Macau is 'maslo' which means oil - does this frame hold an oil painting?
