RN Service Records
« on: Monday 24 June 19 08:38 BST (UK) »
Hi Guys,

In my granddads records is stamped 'Elects M.A. Scheme from ... 1 Apr 1938' , and another one, stating 'Elects M.A. (R)  from 1 Sep 1941'. What does this mean - is it 'Military Action' or 'Masters of Art' degree (He was a BA.)

Another question is next to the date in the Authority column, some dates are preceded by 'DL'. What does this mean?

Trivial questions, but curiousity.
Thanks,  Dave.

A real expert may hopefully come along soon but my suggestion is that this is either related to the old and new schemes for pay or that MA is Marriage Allowance.  Elects meaning he chose to go on to the scheme from the dates given.  Do they link with marriage perhaps?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

Hi Max,

I think you may have a point there as above the first entry is a Box stating his Marriage date, even though it was many years before (1916).
Is that like an insurance he now pays, in case of injury/death cos his pay reduces by one shilling per day.

Thanks,  Dave

Sorry Dave, reached the end of my RN expertise (so-called).  Does look as if it is pay/allowance related but how it all worked - don't know I'm afraid.
