For me, the only thing that looks at all likely is Macdonald - badly written. It's a bit like my scrawl when I have to do a lot of sigantures  ;D

Hi All Thank you all I love "Mactomato " Ann Mac? 45yrs  is down as wife to William Fraser, also 4 children on the 61 census Scotland.
I have found the birth of the children, Mother Ann Fraser nee Macdonald, (unable to find marriage so far.)  Is the wife Ann Mac? on the 61 census the mother of the children? if so why is she not Fraser as on the births of the children. I have tried to find the death of Ann Fraser nee Macdonald, no luck so far.
from a very distant cousin of the Mactomato family Thank you for your help Bruce.

It was, and still probably is, the case that married women in Scotland are known as Forename Husband's surname or maiden name eg Ann Fraser or Macdonald - ie not losing their maiden names, so the enumerator may have quite rightly written Ann Macdonald even if she & William were married. As I understand it the death will be indexed under both names.
