How large is the largest tree on Ancestry?
« on: Monday 24 June 19 14:33 BST (UK) »
Let's assume that you can fully research and document a person's BM&D and full life in one hour.  I know, it's absurd, but humour me.

Let's assume that you work at it for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, 48 weeks a year, allowing for a bit of a social life.  That means that you could add 1,680 people each year.

I just found a tree with over 65,000 people on it.  That would take 38 years.

It's a private tree...

I've not quite matched yours but have seen one today with 58,000+.  Your calculations would appear to be correct; however, you are forgetting those who download someone else's WHOLE tree all in one go and that could add a couple of grand to the total.  Happened to me and I was really cross - all that work plus they downloaded a couple of stories that belong only to my family without checking, plus photos of my papa-in-law who'd died only a couple of weeks prior.  However, I had the last laugh...one of the lines had a slight error in it which meant I had to delete 2 generations of a family that wasn't mine (and being in the mid-1800s meant many children...); meanwhile, she had continued expanding on it! ;D ;D ;D  Needless to say, my feeble efforts (just about 1,000 in one tree and average of 700 in 4 others) have been 10 years in the making.

One of my DNA matches has a tree that includes Joseph of Aramathea.

My wife says I'm related to a slowworm and a three-toed sloth. I could argue with her but frankly, I don't have the energy.
Thomas, Davies, Jones, Walters, Daniel in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. That should narrow it down a bit!
Vincent: Fressingfield, Suffolk, Stockton & Sunderland.
Murtha/Murtaugh: Dundalk & Sunderland
Ingram: Cairnie by Huntly, Scotland then Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
Bardouleau: London - in memory of my stepmother Annie Rose née Bardouleau who put up with a lot from me.

The Guinness Book of World Records recognized the Confucius genealogical line as the longest family tree in history, with 86 recorded generations over 2,500 years. The Chinese philosopher is thought to have 3 million descendants all over the world.
