Death of John McKeegany
« on: Tuesday 25 June 19 09:42 BST (UK) »
Hi any help most welcome,
I have searched for many many years for the death of my G Grandad John Mc Keeganey  he lived in felling heworth  born in Ireland 1853/1858.
I know he was still alive in 1908 as he was present at his son's ( Anthonys) wedding.
Many thanks

How do you know he was present at the wedding - is he recorded as a witness, or in a newspaper notice or similar?  Where was the wedding?

When and where do you last have John in a census?

Where did father marry?
Where was son born?

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

“Present” how?  The naming of a father (name and occupation) on a marriage registration is standard, assuming this was in England, and is not evidence that the father was present or even alive.

Did he sign as a witness?  How is the surname spelt on this marriage?

Just because he is down on the certificate as Anthony's father does not prove that he was there. I have several marriage certificates giving the name of the bride/groom's father which do not state that he was deceased although I have the certificate to prove that he had died. If no-one tells the Vicar/Priest/Registrar that the person is dead, and if they forget to ask, then 'deceased' will not be noted on the certificate.

Hi Candrjm
Yes that is them  in the 1891 Census surname Mc Kaigray  I also have
1881 Census  surname  Mc Gachan in Felling Heworth
1901 Census surname Mc Keegney Felling Heworth.

The marriage was  2nd of June 1877  St Patrick's Chapel felling shore heworth
John Mc Ghnay  Age21 Bachelor  Father Patrick Mc Ghnay Profession Farmer
Lavina Mc Arlane Age 18 Spinster Father Patrick Mc Arlane Profession Farmer

Children  Patrick,  Mary Ann ,Anthony ,John ,Cathrine

Lavina died in 1895 Felling Shore,  as Levinia Mc Kagnay.

So this is all so confusing to me, I  thought my surname was Mc Keeganey simple ???
