North China Herald

I'm wondering if anyone has a working link to the archives for the North China Herald newspaper? I've seen a few posted but all seem to be dead ( 404 ) I know there are subscription accesses such as Newpapers.com and Brill, but there is supposed to be a searchable index someplace, to narrow the focus a bit.

It seems that one of my many memberships includes access to this newspaper. No promises, but I'll give it a try if you send me a PM with a couple of lookup requests.

Thank you so much. I will check through the search section for any appropriate headers and copy any that I think might be relevant. I had family in northern China, Shanghai and Tientsin but also in Foochow from the mid 1800s. My GGF went to Foochow in 1865 but moved around some...probably in the off seasons for tea shipments.

Hi,
     I found these three listings. I'm trying now to find the name of James Clark's wife. One appears to be a birth of a daughter, then a marriage of a daughter and the other possibly the death of his wife. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The wife’s name is never mentioned, but she dies on 24 Jul 1910 in Shanghai aged 47 as the beloved wife of James Clark I.M. Customs.

On 27 Nov 1906 the wife of James Clark, I.M.C. has a daughter

On 9 Mar 1906 the second daughter Charlotte Ida Clark second daughter of James Clark I.M. Customs service marries James Bell Taylor.
Note#1: Ancestry has the father as “James Charles Taylor.
Note#2: Charlotte divorces late 1919 in San Francisco. The paper mentions that her son is 10Y and that James Bell Taylor is a Shanghai automobile dealer.

Thank you so much! That gives me new leads to follow up on. There was quite a range of ages with the James Clark offspring, with one being born and another getting married so close together. I was trying to justify the ages as she would be very young...I figured 16, but I see the marriage shows her as 17 so I guess its the correct party. Also her witnesses were her father  and her brother in law Kenneth McKelvie, so I know that part is correct. Nice new leads!
