Elizabeth Burke formerly Audley living 1918 in Kansas City, Missouri
« on: Wednesday 26 June 19 21:34 BST (UK) »
In an Obituary of a John Joseph Audley aged 68 reported in the Kansas City Star published 9th February 1918 a reference is made to his sister Mrs Elizabeth Burke of 222 West Thirty-ninth Street.

I suspect the Mrs Elizabeth Burke, his sister, is the Elizabeth Audley, who married Edward B Burke in Buchan County, Mssouri on 5th September 1877.  I have seen their surnames recorded as Audly and Burne in transcriptions of their marriage record.

I would appreciate help in trying to find Elizabeth Burke (formerly Audley) in the US Federal Censuses  from 1880 to 1920.

I know a lot about the family of John Joseph Audley who is recorded in the obituary but know nothing about his sister Mrs Elizabeth Burke other than in 1918 was living at 222 West Thirty-ninth Street.

Many Thanks in anticipation of your help

ancestry.com tied these all to an Elizabeth Audley, born Ireland c 1846, in Ward 14 NYC in 1870, a seamstress. I don't know why. maybe someone's tree.

that is Elizabeth, at least in 1910 with son in law William Boyle. In 1920 the Boyles  were at the address given in John's obituary.

you should be able to work Katherine's information backward to prove the other years are correct.

I have seen their surnames recorded as Audly and Burne in transcriptions of their marriage record.

Probably transcribed as Burne because the top of the "k" is overwritten by a letter from the line above.
Attached I hope

no other information other than married by J J Gabbin? Isabbin? ; Michael Crawford, recorder.

Here is the original marriage record.

Their daughter Katherine died in 1925. She is listed as living at 222 West Thirty-ninth Street., same address  the obit for John gave for his sister Elizabeth in 1918.

Thanks to RJ 137 for the two obits from the  Kansas City Star.

Could I ask RJ 137 to confirm the ages if Edward R Burke and Elizabeth Burke in the two obits. I have taken their ages as 54 and 83 respectively. If this is correct then Elizabeth would have been 15 years older than Edward R.  This conflicts with their ages in the 1900 census, (as per link supplied by oldohiohome)

Edward R is aged 48 in 1900 census; This fits in with his age in the obit (aged 54 in 1905)
Elizabeth is  aged 50 in 1900 census; which would suggest she was 69 in 1919; which is very different from the 83 in my interpretation of the obit. Am I reading the obit correctly?

The other confusion I see is that Edward's initial of his second forename is R according to both his obit as 1900 census and yet in the image of his name in the marriage record, as provided by oldohiohome gives his name as Edward B Burke and not Edward R Burke. Any comments?

I will be looking at the  census records you have provided links to tomorrow evening.
