Location in Belgium/Netherlands
« on: Saturday 29 June 19 12:51 BST (UK) »
On 3 March 1767 Joanna Boon was baptised in Antwerp, (onze Lieve Vrouw Noorden).  Her father was Guilielmi Boon, ex Meersbroeck.  I cannot find Meersbroeck, or something similar anywhere.  Does anyone have any ideas where it might be?

It was entered as Mersbroeck,Mersbroek and Meijsbroeck on his other 3 children's baptisms.

I don’t believe that there was/is a town called Meersbroek, but I think that the following could be a possibility:

The “Heerlijkheid" (Property owned by a nobleman) of Gijselo had a fief called Meersbroek near Aalter/Tielt.  It is quite likely that there would have been a community living there in the 18th century.

(FYI Meers and Broek are both words for a marsh or a low lying piece of land.)

Broek also means trousers, beek is another word for stream .
Meer can be more or lake.
I too think it is a place owned by Guillelmi Boon.
Viktoria.
