All the Rice family seem to be elusive on the 1841.

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard 12 June 1841 has a report on a Joseph Rice brickmaker as being an insolvent debtor.

If you have access to newspapers it may be worth having a look at the numerous articles.

Following up ph the Joseph Rice as a debtor one article gave previous places he had been in which tied in with of some of the births of his children. The last given was Edenbridge which led me to finding

1841 Census Maidstone Jail Kent
Joseph Rice brickmaker debtor not born in Kent

Then I found

1841 census Edenbridge Kent
Elizabeth Rice 30
Jonah 8
William 6
Henry 3
Thomas

None born in Kent

The appears to be called Hansel and is shared with 4 other brick making families

Great find, Gibel - thanks.  ;D

They do seem to have moved about a bit.

On William and Harrietís marriage entry is his father Joseph listed as a brickmaker?

I think I might have found Joseph and his brother Jamesí baptisms. On the 1861 census they both give Northamptonshire place unknown. I found these

Eydon Parish Church Northants
Baptism 11 Nov 1813 Joseph son of Thomas and Jane Rice of Eydon brickmaker

Baptism 24 May 1818 James son Thomas and Jane Rice of Eydon brickmaker
