The baptism entry for Jean Selkirk born 1802 only lists her father as Mr Selkirk overseer at Scotstoun which is near Blyth Bridge.  She married William Walker at Lanark in 1821.

Any info of the Selkirk Family in that area would be welcome

Where & when did Jean die as a death in Scotland after Statutory Records began (1855) should give both parents names including mother's maiden name if known to the informant?

Mr Selkirk overseer at Scotstoun which is near Blyth Bridge.

Is the above exactly what's written as it's a fair walk of approx. 50 miles?

Lanark has many different burial places where she could be, can you narrow down where in Lanark last child was born/when & where in Lanark family were in 1841 for possible burial sites?

Hi Annie.

I am not referring to the whole of Lanarkshire but to the town of Lanark, Lanarkshire. I have checked with Paul Archibald at Lanark Library for Monumental Inscriptions & for other info but without success.  All four children were born in Lanark, Lanarkshire with the last being born in 1832.  Due to the lack of sources in Lanark, Lanarkshire, I am trying to trace the Selkirk Family in Peebleshire.

Seems I have misread the above.

Hi Binkie
I live next to Scotstoun, if I can be any help with anything, please let me know.It is a small estate, currently about 125 acres with a beautiful main house and listed steading
Where was Jean baptised? Newlands Church would be the local Church, or possibly Kirkurd

Sorry for not replying sooner!

The entry for my 3xgreat grandmother Jean Selkirk birth 01 May 1802 is in the Newlands Parish Register.  The father's name could be William.  Can't find any other Selkirks in the area but he may just have been the overseer of Scotstown in Newlands for a short time.  She married William Walker of Lanark on 07 Oct 1821 in Lanark, Lanarkshire.  She died before 1841.

Thanks,

Agnes
