CdV of Hexham lady - date please?
« on: Tuesday 02 July 19 10:32 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate a date for this CdV please.

Given that she is displaying a bustle, and that the CdV has square rather than rounded corners my very inexpert thought is that this is early 1870's.

Am I correct, please?

Fashion changed markedly in 1875 - the voluminous and over decorated dress/skirt became much more sleek.

Here's an example of a really elaborate one, dated 1872:

Imagine cleaning/washing/ironing that!  Maybe they didn't  :-X

Add- another dated 1870:

Thank you both very much. I'm relieved that, for once, my dating seems to be correct  :-X

Yes, there could well have been creatures of various sorts nesting in all those ruffles.

Yep - early 1870s  :)

Yes Gadget, that would have been my estimate if I had been around to see it, having seen so many images on here over the years and reading up on Victorian fashion as we do, you get a feel for the decade. Having said that, we do sometimes get images that throw us from time to time when the image and the card stock don't match  ::) ;D
Not an AgLabs Daughter or wife dressed like that  ;D
I have learnt so much from you, China and Jim over the years.
You are getting a lovely collection together Jen.
