Matthew Brandon Birth ABOUT 1810 County Fermanagh, Ireland
« on: Tuesday 02 July 19 19:56 BST (UK) »
Looking for Matthew and his family.  An old family history gives approximate birth and location.

We know he married before 1839-1840 in Ireland as the family headed for Canada around 1840 and Matthew's wife passed on the voyage or around arrival in Canada.  We thought possibly at Grosse Ile but unable to find a Brandon on the memorial list around that time.  Some have arrival as late as 1843 but nothing for a Brandon female death that fits.  Possible they arrived at an entry other than Grosse Ile

Old family tree had his spouse born about 1810 as well in County Fermanagh, Ireland.  Several mentions of family as Near Lake Erne, County Fermanagh, Ireland.

We know of two children:

Mary Ann Brandon 1827–1900  Her death record lists her as a Methodist

Jane A Brandon  1830–1919 Methodist listed on death record

Thanks for the lead to those records.

The 1841 census fragment has a Brandon family at Pettigoe Town but no Matthew.  The father of the family seems to be born Mar 1828 so possibly a brother?

A marriage of a Thomas Brandon of "full age" ? living in  Mullinmeen  11/3/1858 lists father as Mathew and Thomas married an Elizabeth Read of Tivemore

More digging in other records needed

Depending on where they lived you might need to check Donegal too...

We have not found any hint of the spouses name.

Thought something would pop in Canadian records if she died in Canada or on the ship.

Those marriages would put him 18-20 years old approximately.  Assume that is not  a young age at the time.

Interesting that the Mathew Brandon of that parish marries a Catherine Loan in 1828 and then a Margaret Loan in 1829.  If the same man possibly a death for first wife?

Given the two possible brides names, another Canada search may yield added information on her and the arrival of the family

Marriage 18/20 not unusual.

It's certainly possible Catherine died giving Birth for example,  and sister married him.....
