help to read birthplace possibly Cruise, New Luce

Hi everyone,
I have just downloaded the baptism record for John Murray. I am having trouble working out the place name in New Luce. Is it Cruiues? Cruives? Does it mean Cruise farm or as per dictionary meaning of Cruives... hovels.... somewhere in New luce? Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I've looked at the NLS old maps and I can only find Cruise. However, the Farm Horse Tax Roll on Scotlands Places mentions a Cruives

1851 census has Samuel Murray family at Cruise Smithy House, New Luce.

Thanks, I wonder if these are variants of the same name then and if the smithy building still exists?

   I found Cruise farm New Luce on Yell Pages it appears still to be there . I googled it and it came up between Kenmuir Hotel and village hall.

Hope this helps maybe someone from the area will be able to give you more information.

The Google Maps result is unhelpful because it appears not to specify which village hall!

Also https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=17&lat=54.9293&lon=-4.8522&layers=6&b=1 from which you can see that the farm buildings are marked on the map but not named.

A cruive is originally a fish trap in a river. Perhaps the farm took its name from something of the sort in the burn beside it.
