Jersey Lookup request
« on: Thursday 04 July 19 13:16 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I have searched the online records without success.

I am trying to trace Elias Rowe born in Jersey c1735.
He married Eliza also born in Jersey c1738.

Is there anyone who can do a lookup of records for me?

Many thanks in advance
Billy Barnowl

Which "online records" would those be?

Which particular record did you base the names, birthplace, and birth years from?

Hi Pauline

I've looked at a number of different online records including the usual familysearch, ancestry, Genes Reunited etc.

Regards
Billy

Hi Pauline

Sorry to answer your 2nd question Elias - being both very relaxed about name and date and place of birth?

Regards
Billy

Start with a fact.
Like did they produce a child?
Name?
When?
Where?

Hi

In this instance that is not going to help me - because they have their children in Newfoundland.

So my facts are:-

Elias died 1810 in Barbados
Eliza died 1815 in Newfoundland

both were in Newfoundland in 1794 as they are mentioned in the census.

As he was a wealthy merchant both his and her deaths are mentioned in local Newfoundland records/newspapers - which state in separate articles from Jersey.

Also, years of birth calculated from published records/newspapers.

Hope this helps
Chrissie

There's no evidence of the surname that early.
Earliest I can see is two 1740's burials, a soldier and a soldier's wife.
There are baptisms with the Row/Roe/Rowe surname beginning 1761, but I see no marriage(s) prior

Hi Pauline

From my look into the online records, there were lots of "French" names around 1735.

Is there anything like a French version of Elias Rowe - Elie Ray/Roul (sorry I am now just guessing)?

or any chance you could send me a list from 1730 - 1740 to look through?

Many thanks
Chrissie
