Trying to find Charles Cusworth - Photographer
« on: Friday 05 July 19 15:39 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone could help me?

I'm trying to find any details about  Charles Cusworth (26 APR 1852 • Boroughbridge, Yorkshire - 3 MAR 1937 • Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California).
I have brief info that he was a Photographic Artist at All Saints Studios, 5 Queen Street, Derby. I believe around the 1900s? But can find no details.
He is resident at St Thomas Road, Normanton, Derbyshire in 1901, where he is recorded as a Photographer. He appears to have left around 1903 for America.
Prior to this in 1891, he is a Photographic Apparatus Maker, living at Eagle House, Leyton, Essex.

Local trade directories? It sounds as if you have him from censuses in 1901 and 1891, do you have him prior to that date?
A local  Newspaper, or local history society - or even, if there is one in Derby area, a local photographic society may be able to help. Good luck with your search.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

The 1910 US census has him in Utah, with wife Annie, and children Beth, Stella, and Archibald.  They say they immigrated to the US in 1906.
However, his Utah Naturalization/Citizenship form says he immigrated to the USA (Montana) via Alberta, Canada Nov. 1905. It gives his birth info as 26 Apr 1852, Boroughbridge, Yorkshire.
The Naturalization/Citizenship form was dated 25 Aug 1914.  His address at that time was 115 South Main St., Salt Lake City, Utah and states his last address was Magrath, Canada (that is in Alberta).

1920, he is not employed, and is with wife and son in Wellsville, Cache, Utah.
1930 he is in Los Angelos not workin, with wife, and married son and two grandkids.

There is also a newspaper article from 1886 about him, as he invented something which made "balloon photography" practical, with a long explanation of what that actually is.
The article states he was born and educated in Boroughbridge, and moved to Manchester at age 15. In Manchester he was appointed Clerk of the Works for the Mancherster School Board, gave that up to work in the civilian dept. of the Royal Engineers, then entered H.M. Civil Service.

Full article in Pateley Bridge & Nidderdale Herald 18 September 1886 and
18 September 1886 - Knaresborough Post

Son Archibald died in Vancouver Canada; his death registration shows his parents (mmn Bowyer):

Findagrave seems to have Charles' children, but not him or his wife Annie....  ???
