Catherine Fitzgibbon Doneraille ? Cork
« on: Sunday 07 July 19 13:05 BST (UK) »
hello
I am researching Catherine Fitzgibbon whose father is listed as Robert Fitzgibbon and she had a brother John Fitzgibbon who was in the 9th regiment
she was transported to Tasmania on the East London in arriving in 21 sept 1843 her trial date was 10 October 1842 in Cork. transported for 7 years. for stealing clothes. age 24

she did have a prior conviction.

I have been told about a record for a Catherine Fitzgibbon age 22 abandoning her infant child in 1838 not guilty
I am trying to determine whether this is the same person.

any assistance in locating her birth or that of the brother or the mother or parents marriage would be gratefully appreciated
I live in Hobart

Have you tried searching https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

from this Search you can select Cork from the results... change dates etc if needed!

thankyou for both of these links. I have looked at the first one and the only records I could see was when the fitz part was dropped from the name with the record showing as gibbon, I will however go through the second link that you have forwarded to me.  however I have used the first  to search other irish surnames of curran in wexford unsuccessfully for the dates I wanted but found several entries elsewhere which may be of interest.

Doubtful, as all RC Registers are already online

thankyou I didn't realise that these were already available online. I will tell my sister and other relatives who are also trying to sift through irish records and we have been struggling so this should lead to a result for us hopefully
several of our family have also done dna tests so it may help to clarify some of the results we have from them as well.

If Parents died 1864+ you might get Civil Registrations for them.

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp BUT you need to know which District Office they would have used

https://www.swilson.info/regdistmap.php  has them for every County so you can select Wexford from Dropdown box, to get them for Wexford.

In your case, if you select Cork, you will find the District to be Mallow!
