Place & Name suggestions please

I'm having a problem with a few words from Heydon (Essex) Parish Records

Would appreciate your thoughts or suggestions re the attached underlined.

#1     John the son of Willm Mowle of ……….
          and was baptized 17 February (1593)

#2     Prudence the daughter of William Mowle of
         …………. and baptized the eleventh March (1591/2)

#3     ………..  the son of Wm the son of
         Robt Mowle was baptized the 30 June (1594)

The 3rd one has the forename transcribed as "Uryas" which may or may not be correct. Suggestions?

The first 2 appear to describe the same place name - probably somewhere in Essex.

I was very interested to see that a lot of the Mowle bp's pre 1600 show child's name, father's name & then also the grandfather's name. It appears this has only been done for Mowle family christenings - I wonder why?

First two are y^e West end and the West ende.

Does that make sense?

Still thinking about the third.

If possible, would you post the third image without the underlining and with the contrast increased a little.

Just read to the bottom of your post.

I can see why the other transcriber has chosen Uryas.  Certainly it begins with U/V and very likely ends with __yas.

The r in daughter on Prudence's record is similar to what we have here.

Provided that the third letter is indeed a y (as it appears to be) then Uryas looks solid.

I cant seem to locate a place in Essex called "West end" or similar but then I cant see the first word being "the" either (should go to specsavers  ) I'll recheck the area near Heydon.

I'd googled the name Uryas previously and hadn't found anything specific so thought there may be an error in transcription.

The first has y^e = the

In the second the t and e are fairly clear but the descender of the P above severely interferes with the h.

It's possible that the name is very localised.  People had names for each furlong and close in their area, most of which are lost outside of old documents.

I'd googled the name Uryas previously and hadn't found anything specific so thought there may be an error in transcription.

The y^e  now makes perfect sense. I can also see "the" in the second as well once I ignore the extended P.

Uryas it is - interesting site for old biblical names too.
