Thank you Rosie99 and Bucksboy for your help.
Bredlow should have read Bledlow (typo). The 1841 Census was spot on so it confirms that Martha was Joseph's wife. It seems they may have been in the poor house at the time.
On Williams marriage certificate Joseph's occupation was "baker". On his death certificate it was given as "labourer".
On the 1881 census William's place of birth was recorded as Buckingham. I don't think that the William born 30 Nov 1828 at Cheddington is correct because my William married in 1840! The marriage between Joseph Stevens and Martha Seabrooke at Cheddington in 1823 may be a red herring seeing that my William was born circa 1819 (died 1890 aged 71).
The baptism of Richard in 1829 at Bledlow may be the Richard on the 1841 census only because Joseph his father was shown as a baker.
Because the 1841 census doesn't show where residents were born it appears difficult to pin point where exactly Joseph was born, the maiden name of Martha and where they were married. Will keep looking.

Yes, the Cheddington family are not yours. All info proves it. Just a question mark of the burial for Joseph's 2nd wife.  Sorry about adding all that to this thread....but it saves repeated requests to confirm it, and also clarifies where else you need to search.

Bledlow seems the place to look.  As for Buckingham.......could be Shire, or town.  Been there many times, with p.o.b, as just Buckinghamshire.

BucksFHS can do a search in Bucks, for the other Joseph Stevens/Stephens marriage and baptism. £1 per 100 year search, for each event.

The May Lanchbury Site is ok, but there is so much missing, so don't rely on it 100%

Hooray. ;D ;D

From OxFHS - Marriage index, and Chinnor PR's CD transcripts.

Joseph Stevens(of Bledlow, Bucks), married Martha Jennings, 18 April 1816 at Chinnor, Oxfordshire. Witnesses - Thomas East & John Cooper.

This marriage fits with Joseph Stevens baptism in Bledlow, Bucks(Apr 12 1795 - Joseph and Mary, twins of Jas & Susanh Stephens).

I'll check for baptisms in Chinnor PR's

Thanks bucksboy (Steve) for all the information you have provided which has proven to be invaluable. Certainly has filled in a lot of gaps going backwards in the family line. Going forward is so much easier.

My Paternal Grandmother was a Stevens, not sure if there is a link with your Stevens, and mine.  The locailty is close.  My 4x Gramps was John Stevens, 1773, Bledlow, Bucks.

Just need to find the marriage of Jas.(James) Stevens and Susannah......the parents of Joseph.

Good luck with your research.

We do appear to have a family connection. The parents of my Joseph (1793) were James Stevens (13 Oct 1763 Bledlow) and Sussana. His parents were James (10 Sep 1732 Bledlow) and Mary. James parents were Edward and Elizabeth who, I believe to be the parents of your John 1733. James and John are brothers. Edward is the 8 x great grandfather of my wife.
Still looking for marriages which don't appear to be in the Bledlow records.

James Stevens(1770, of Bledlow), married Susannah Higgins, 29 June 1794 @ Saunderton, Bucks.

Saunderton is close to Bledlow.  You'll find it easier to go to google maps, and see the area.

James Stevens, son of Jeremiah Stevens, and Deborah(nee. Smith).

Marriage
21 Apr 1766 • St Mary's, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, England

Jeremiah(x)STEVENS of Bledlow, Deborah(x)SMITH otp. . Witnesses - John Smith & Joshua Meakes .
Seems we are connected in some way.

I have just discovered a possible link to the Stevens family of Bledlow.

I believe the Daniel Stevens I have been chasing for years may be Daniel Stevens bp 1752 Bledlow, son of Daniel and Hannah.  There are other candidates, but this seems to be the most likely one. Unfortunately the 'launchbury' site that used to be online and contained many records for Bledlow no longer seems to respond.

If anyone can help me with any more information about possible siblings of Daniel I would be very grateful.
