Find the McCalls
« on: Tuesday 09 July 19 21:55 BST (UK) »
Hello, this is my first "chat", and hopefully someone can help me find the parents - and their forebears - of David McCall, a shoemaker, who married Marion Penman in Falkirk on 27 October 1811. David was born in 1789 and died in 1886. I have plenty of information on the Penman family, but David is proving much more difficult, particularly, as traditionally, the firstborn male holds the given name of David.
The couple had 7 children, all born in Falkirk.
Any wee hints will be gratefully received.
Regards
David McCall

Welcome to Rootschat

His parents should be named on his death cert including his mothers maiden name.  You can download a copy from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

EDIT

I cannot see a death in 1886 - do you have the right year?

No 1881 entry either

You don't say where he was born?

Thanks for quick responses. Confused I am. Death  does not seem to be 1883. I have Death Cert for Marion Penman in 1876, "widow of David McCall, Shoemaker, Falkirk". Births of children found, 7, range from 1812 to 1825, however. Could I be looking at two people? I don't have any info for David before the marriage - on 27 October 1811 in Falkirk from OPRs. No parents mentioned.

Hi have you found David or Marion in any of the census and do any of their children marry or die between 1855 and Marion's death as this may narrow down a death of David

Marion was 85 when she died in Falkirk so born c1791.  If David died pre 1855 no parents will be shown on his death cert

In 1861 she is with her sister and appears to be a widow

@ David,  there's a mention on "Old Scottish!" of an Annie McCall born 23 Feb' 1855 Falkirk, mother Janet McCall, they have a note of the father but it's a pay site!

Skoosh.

Thanks Skoosh. Thanks for that. Had a quick look at "Old Scottish"  - a bit pricey, but I'll bear it in mind. all info's good.
