Great grandmother Donnell Wexford/Waterford
« on: Wednesday 10 July 19 02:29 BST (UK) »
Hi can anyone help or give me advice with where to start tracing records for my G G grandmother?

I've found her on the 1881 census at Ashton under lyne Workhouse with her 3 boys.

Unmarried
Birth 1850 co Waterford
Eldest son William Norris born Waterford also.
2 younger boys born in Lancashire
Unusual to be unmarried with 3 children

Not sure where to start snd so confused with Irish records??!

Desperate to trace her family and find out her story

Would be so so grateful for any help!! 😊

Thx Zoe x

Can't find an obvious birth for Ellen but if she was McDonnell this is for 15 July 1850 ST. NICHOLAS  Parish/Church/Congregation - Dublin.
Father   JOHN MC DONNELL
Mother   ELLEN HART

I am confused. Both you and the census extract you posted clearly say she was born in Co. Waterford. Yet your post is headlined Wexford/Waterford, and this is in the Wexford sub-forum?

Should be moved to the Waterford sub-forum?

Looking in Co. Waterford, I see four (4) Ellen Donnell + name variant baptisms in 1850, and 17 in the years 1850 +/- 5 years.

You can't fish on a empty stomach so give the man one or two records so he knows how good it tastes.
