Walter appears on the 1911 census at Hull, but i can't see him in 1901 - so presumably he arrived between 1901 and 1904.

As majm says, he doesn't seem to be registered under the name Walter REES in NSW with father Edward.

There is an item in the Hull Daily Mail about Walter in 1926 where his age is given as 45, so the dob 1883 could be somewhat flexible. (Brian - If you haven't seen the article I'm happy to attach it  :) Also death notice in 1940 - though unfortunately it doesn't mention where he was born, and death notices of his children George, 1928 and Dorothy, 1947.)

Walters full birthdate is given on the 1939 register which may help in tracing his birth in Australia.

Details being sent by pm as 1939 details cannot be posted here

Hi All,

One of the features of the current NSW BDM online indexes is that you can actually search using just one piece of information ... for example a date of birth ...  Anyway, there is a Walter GREAVES with parents Edward and Caroline, birth registered Burwood (a suburb of Sydney) Birth registration reference 4937/1882 and that Walter's dob is 19 November 1882.

If you were to order the official transcription of that birth cert you would learn about Walter, and about both his parents, including the then age of the parents, where they were born, married etc.    Edward and Caroline had a number of children, (this Walter had older and younger siblings) and I am NOT SURE if GREAVES  family are actually connected in any way to Walter REES.

Official Transcription Agent (there are three, all are excellent) you get a pdf document as email attachment, and it is already transcribed  :) by experienced people who have years of 'practice' transcribing the longhand scribble from those 19th century NSW BDM clerks  :) https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history-research/family-history-search.aspx

So, given that date of birth, there is a Walter RICE registered at Newton (Sydney) with parents Walter and Lelia G. On my phone at the moment, so will do some more research later.  :)

Yes, I realise that. However there are is no Walter REES registered in NSW with father Edward, so something must be amiss.

However ... looking further, I see a death notice for Lelia RICE in 1934 which names children Walter (living in Banksia), Geraldine and Daphne - so not Brian's Walter.  :'(
