Hi Roy

"Ex Prisoner’s Fine Fight

Those who visited Bargoed Pavilion on Saturday had the satisfaction of seeing a rare battle.   It was a 15-round contest between Dai Morgan (Tirphil) and Ned Newman (Rhymney), one of the “old contemptibles” who was taken prisoner in the early stages of the war and spent three years in Germany.

Both boxers fought fiercely, and for the first five rounds Newman had a decided lead.  Morgan then came along with a wet sail, and by the twelfth round had evened matters up.

As the last three rounds were closely and stubbornly contested, Mr. Ted Samuel, the referee, had no option than to declare a draw, and the decision was well received"
