Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Janet Brock Slater from Sanday.

Do you have the deaths of her parents William Slater & Elisabeth Muir which would give their mothers maiden names, one of which may be Brock?

This would be providing they died in Scotland post 1854 & info. was known to the informant.

Hello Pert

I certainly have Brocks from Sanday, who married Muirs, but not aware of this specific connection.

As Janet Brock Slater has 'Brock' as a middle name, it may have been the maiden name of the mother of Elisabeth Muir?

It isn't always the case but very often.

Do you have the DC for Elisabeth 1881 which gives both parents names as well as mother's maiden name if she died in Scotland & those details were known to the informant?

I can`t find either William`s or Elisabeth`s death certificates.

I've just viewed her DC on your tree, her son James was the informant  :)

Oops!  I think I got this when in the FHS office in Kirkwall when I was on Orkney a few years back.  Thanks again Annie.
