Can anyone find this mother and daughter Mary and Anne Lane ?
« on: Thursday 11 July 19 13:37 BST (UK) »
I've found these two ladies on the 1871 census on Ancestry and also the Genealogist.

Mary Lane born 1821    Head                         Cork, Ireland Head     Laundress
Anne Lane born 1846    Daughter                   Southwark                 Barmaid

Living at 12 Stevens Street, Bermondsey RG10/0632/F?

I can't find them on any other census.

Many thanks to anyone who tries to find them,
Jill

Is there any particular reason why you have singled them out?

the age(s) dont look particularly kosher.
The "mother" would have been 15y in 1846.

is there another record of any kind relating to one/other of these women?

Have you looked in the area for a remarriage/death for Mary & a marriage for Ann?

Have you found the birth of Ann & her fathers' details to compare on any possible marriage found?

In 1851 Mary was in Bermondsey, aged 30 and working as a charwoman, on Grange road, with son John, aged 11. Any help?

Anne's birth could be: Camberwell Vol 4 Page 80, Q1 1845 which gives a MMN of Davis. There is no obvious marriage for Lane = Davis in the GRO though.

I found this too Liz and couldn't find a marriage. it's just possible that since Mary came from Ireland she married there too. Also, describing yourself as a "widow" can explain why there is no man around.

I did also try searching irishgenealogy.ie but couldn't find a Davis = Lane marriage - but it's too early for GR in Ireland and parish records are not necessarily as complete as we might hope.

The only reason i suspected she had actually been married was that the GRO index gives Davis as the maiden name of Anne's mother.
