Robert joined the army in 1902 Reg number 6027: Enlisted to the 7th Queen's Own Hussars aged 16 although his army papers state his age is 19.

You missed out his short period of militia service with the Middlesex Regiment (2889) from 28/11/1901. Papers on FindMyPast.

Hello all and thank you.

You are correct I did miss the period in the Militia, thank you, now found on findmypast and clearly my Robert.

Thank you also for the information about time served, I was not aware of this.

No sign on WW1 records.

Thanks again for your help.

Still looking, still missing, most confused about 1911.

Helen
Regards

Helen

While in reserve he would have had to keep up with training by attending fortnightly local training + an annual camp.
He would have been paid while in reserve so a non-appearance would make him AWOL.
It appears on the surface he hasn't attended & therefore been struck off & his payments have ceased.
Had he moved elsewhere he would have been obliged to notify the Army so he may have gone abroad (assuming he hadn't died) or in 1911 hadn't included himself on the census as he was still in reserve & maybe wanted to stay under the radar until his time was up.
