Arrival into England 1870/ 1871 Simon Green & Family
« on: Thursday 11 July 19 20:20 BST (UK) »
Simon Green, born 1837 Prussia, optician, and wife Louisa with children Emma and Arnold (both born St Louis Missouri) arrived New York 8 December 1870 aboard SS City of merida. I believe they then left New York for England around the same time becouse they are shown on the 1871 london census visiting family. Any help to locate passenger record for there arrival into England and leaving again would be appreciated.

I am curious to know which source you used for the 1871 census entry for Simon Green in London as I have tried 3 separate sources and can't find him. I also checked for his son Arnold as well as his name is more unusual.
Wondering why they would travel to USA. then back to London, then back to USA in such a short time. I found Arnold travelling between England and US on 3 occasions as a young man aged 20 clerk/merchant

Just to be clear, the City of Merida had not sailed from England. She was on her usual run between Vera Cruz (Mexico) and New York, via Cuba.

Simon and his family are shown on the 1871 with his brother Theador G de Woolson, he is shown as Simon G (Green) de woolfson. Theador was an optician/oculist and simon was an agent for his brothers business "Dr Woolfson" which operated in USA & Europe. Simon is shown on business documenrs as Don Simon Green.

Thanks for the info regarding route of the City of Merida. They must have arrived into England on another ship.

According to a passport application for Arnold Green dated 9 July 1890 it states that his father Simon Green was naturalized in the criminal court of St Louis Missouri on 21 October 1870. Anyone that can help with Simon Green naturalization documents would be greatly appreciated
