My Great Great Grandmother died when she was six months old
« on: Tuesday 16 July 19 06:34 BST (UK) »
Well I thought she was my Great Great Grandmother. Back in the days of Windows 95 c 2000 all we had was the wonderful LDS and what a treasure trove that was to all of us. Sadly the LDS did not normally show burials then.

Now I am re checking everything in preparation for writing it all up. and WHOOPS!

My Great Great Grandmother I thought was Ann Balmborough who was the daughter of John Balmborough and Ann Ormond. I understood she was born on 23rd December 1793 and baptised on 9th February 1794 at Melton Mowbray. Now one of all those new records we have now shows there was a burial for an Ann Balmborough on 2 July 1794 at Melton Mowbray.

John Balmborough and Ann Ormond had 14 children so now I am wondering if there was a fifteenth. These children were all born between 1788 and 1801, half in Melton Mowbray and half in Grantham, Lincolnshire. The Ann who was born in 1793 was the last of the Melton Mowbray ones.

Thomas Balmborough was the eldest born in Grantham and he was born on 19th April 1795, so there is time for another Ann to be born between them but I cannot find one at all. Births were a yearly event but sadly so many of them died. They must have moved to Grantham between July 1794 and April 1795.

Well I did wonder if they were two different families but they lost Vincent the youngest and he was taken back to Melton Mowbray so I would say they were the same family. He was the only one of the Grantham babies lost that was buried there, perhaps he died when they were visiting.

The names Balmborough and Ormond go down the family as second names so I have little doubt I have the right family.

I realise that this is the Lincolnshire page, but if there was another Ann it is likely she was born in Grantham.

Can anyone wonderful person find her for me please. My grateful thanks.

Did she appear on the 1851 census, if so when and where was she born.

Who did she marry, where and when

I thought I had identified all the children born to a set of 3 X great grandparents. They were born in three different parishes and their baptisms were all recorded. Only after joining Rootschat did I discover that there was another son, born at the move between parishes and with his baptism unrecorded. So your scenario is possible.

One of the "missing" child's Australian descendants was trying to trace any family. He had been transported for stealing cattle!

With Peter Bailey and family in 1841 in Grantham, there is no Ann listed, but a Martha Bailey, 35, not born county

Indeed, is the Bailey marriage the right one? There is the Orman middle name for daughter Eliza.
When did Ann die, is she alive in 1861 (and where)?
For Bailey, several burials in Grantham can be eliminated, leaving (from FreeReg again)
18 May 1867, New Somerby Cemetery
Ann Bailey, age 62, widow, from Spittlegate :-\

Perhaps she really was Martha, and born York?
