35 Spencer Steet, Walton, Liverpool
« on: Tuesday 16 July 19 11:42 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the names of the occupants of 35 Spencer Street, Walton Liverpool, in 1864. In the nearest census of 1861, the number is missing on FindMyPast. I've tried electoral registers and directories with no luck. Can anybody help?

What is significant about 1864?

People used "convenience" addresses in those days to enable them to marry in a parish of their choice or to baptise children etc.  It is not unusual to find an address that does not exist etc

1864 was the date of the marriage of Lizzie Bayley and 35 Spencer Street was given as her residence. I see no reason to doubt that this was correct and the number exists in the 1851 census. A whole batch of numbers are missing from the 1861 census. I suspect that Lizzie was lodging at the address or could have been servant there. I'm trying to find her origin which is a bit of a mystery, and I suspect she was actually Elizabeth Bailey who can be traced.

I see no reason to doubt that this was correct and the number exists in the 1851 census.

There are no house numbers in the 1851 Census only schedule numbers for Spencer Street, Everton   West Derby, or Spencer Street Kirkdale, West Derby.

Lizzie signed as Bayley on the 1864 marriage cert.  Father James - occ builder

The marriage cert shows her as 17yrs old but the 1871 as aged 22.  She is still Lizzie on the 1871 entry and was born Chesterfield Derbyshire.   The family were in Nantwich Cheshire in 1871

Charles was quite a bit older than her - 43 in 1871 and a solicitor

Birthyear is unreliable as in 1881 she is 30 - which would mean she was only 13 when she married!!

In 1891 she is 39 - born 1852
1901 born 1851

I'm looking at the marriage register page and there is no address there. It just says "Walton" for Lizzie and "Wimbledon Surry" for Charles.

The marriage licence does give an address in Spencer Street for Lizzie but it is 55, not 35

The occupant of 55 Spencer Street, Everton in Gore's 1867 directory was a Mrs Thomasina Smith.
