Trying to find Crown Row, Mile End Road, London
« on: Tuesday 16 July 19 12:23 BST (UK) »
I wonder if any of you clever people can help me find 37 Crown Row, Mile End Road - in the parish of St. Dunstan, Stepney.
I have Richard Mullins as an Optical Instrument Maker, resident here in 1861. I think the premises may have been next door to the Coach & Horses PH, which was at 36 Crown Row (380 Mile End Road, Mile End). The pub lasted until 1944 but then demolished.

Any assistance appreciated

Crown Row was on the south side of Mile End Road between White Horse Lane and Bancroft's Place. It was numbered consecutively so 37 would definitely have been next to 36.

This snip is from an 1856 directory. Will look for a map.

In the 1860's renumbering, 37 Crown Row would have become 382 Mile End Road.

It's one of those locations that are just on the edge of OS maps. In this 1870 view - more or less centred on the Coach & Horses - the property would be just above the A in "St Dunstan":  https://maps.nls.uk/view/103313003#zoom=5&lat=853&lon=7429&layers=BT
