Can anyone help me with Mary, please?
« on: Tuesday 16 July 19 17:13 BST (UK) »
On the 1841 census she's age 30, with William Moore, a miller, in Newark, Nottinghamshire and several children (eldest born about 1830) - Sarah, George, William and Mary - and she is listed as being born out of the county.

On the 1851 census she's age 41, with William (still a miller) and some of the same children plus a few new ones - Sarah, William, Hannah and Jane - in Hoveringham, Notts, and her place of birth is a bit unclear.  Ancestry has it transcribed as Sterton, Lincolnshire, but Genuki shows no such place.

On the 1861 census, William (still a miller) is back in Newark.  With him is a wife, Mary who has aged 20 years instead of the expected 10 and is now from Leicester.  Same Mary or a new wife for William with the same given name?

Can anyone please help me sort out:
a) the place of birth for Mary on the 1851 census?
b) the possible two Marys?
c) suggest a possible marriage date/place, pre 1830 for William and Mary?
d) a possible baptism for [the first] Mary?
anywhere you think I've gone wrong

All help appreciated.

Thanks
STG

Oh, ta.  That sounds like a good find.

Now I just need to know where she's from to see if I can track down a baptism for her.  Am wondering if the names of the children hold any clues?

Mary Meggitt
Female
Baptism   21 Apr 1811
Place:    Bonby,Lincoln,England
Father:    Robert Meggitt
Mother:    Mary
FHL Film Number:    421928

Might this be her?  Just looking round the locality of Bonby for a town which may have been given in the 1851 and then mistranscribed/misheard....

Sturton le Steeple  between East Retford and Gainsborough or Sturton by Stow between Gainsborough and Lincoln both Lincolnshire and not too far from Newark look good for the place where Mary was born.

Both sound good medpat, but unless she was born/christened in Bonby and then her family moved some distance south, and that's where she thought she came from, the christening I posted looks a bit far away.....
