cremation records
« on: Wednesday 17 July 19 14:37 BST (UK) »
I just need some help,
i'm looking for a cremation record of Thomas William Bruines (known as billy), who died in Hull at home, on the 8th January 1942 aged 20 (b. 13 nov 1921)
I found a obituary in the Hull daily mail, which state that he had a service at derringham church, in willerby, with a later cremation, but it doesn't say if he was buried with any another person or what he died of, it's been an ever lasting wonder as he is my grandmothers uncle, i thought he would have been injuries in WW2 but i cannot find anything to back this up. i have also tried burial records too.

if it helps they lived on woodlands road in 1939.

It would have been Derringham Bank Methodist Church which is off Willerby Road...The link shows a bombings maps in Hull. Your reference would be Map no.5 :

I would agree with Nanny Jan.

I have viewed his obituary in the HDM and would have thought that if he was a war casualty it would have been reported and listed as one of the Civilian War Dead
But...you could check here to find out if he is listed:

He was cremated, so why would you expect to find him buried with another person.
Sometimes the ashes are buried but not always, sometimes they are scattered or even spend time sat on someone's mantelpiece.

I wonder if it would be worth contacting Hull Records office.  They have been extremely helpful on the few occasions I have contacted them with questions.

Take nanny jan’s advice and contact Hull Bereavement Services, they will be able to tell you if the ashes were scattered or interred there, or if they were collected by the family.
