Trewirgie Corner, Maternity Ward in Redruth

Hi all,

looking for any information as well as photos of Trewirgie Corner in Redruth. It is (or was ?) a Maternity Ward.
Does anyone know if the records of this Maternity Ward from the year 1945 are public ?
Looking for the birth of a relative of mine. I have his birthcertificate but looking for additional information (as much as possible).

Any help grately appreciated.

I would expect any such records to come within the 100 year closure rule.

Hi there, Cornwall Record Office (closed now but soon to re-open as Kresen Kernow) has the following record: X1034/1/21; County Maternity Unit, Trewirgie Corner, register of patients; 1943-1947. The record is closed until 2022 but if you give KK a call when they open, and tell them the name and that it's a relative, they may provide the info earlier.

KK opens on 11th September but is likely to be incredibly busy for that month. If you're local, you're advised to call ahead and book a time.

As for photos, the Cornwall Studies Library at Redruth was digitising its images and had a large database of these. The Library is also closed for transfer to KK and so you could ask about a photo at the same time.

Hi Flemming, thank you for the info. But I'm not local. I live in the Netherlands.
But, I will  to travel to Redruth if I'm sure that they are willing to help me with the information I'm searching for. That's how much we (the family) are looking for some answers.

I am planning to visit the area end of September.

I believe that Trewirgie Corner was number 10 and it is now a care home.
