Fred & Gert from Ireland
« on: Friday 19 July 19 06:57 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have called the people ‘Fred & Gert from Ireland’ but at present have no idea who they are.
I have aquired these 2 photos that may be in my history. They may not be related to each other. One or both could be from Tipperary. The man is on a card cut to the shape, the lady is on paper, I believe an old copy. There is nothing on either of the reverse sides.
May I ask if somebody could date them through their clothes please. it could give me some clue.
Can I also ask if the photos could be ‘cleaned’ at all or enhanced in some way.
Thank You for reading this.

Possibly an 1870s copy of an 1860s image. Shame you couldn't scan them both rather than photograph them.

Agree with Carol but I rather think this is 1850's - possibly early 60's.

Thank you for your kind attention to the dress detail for me.
So, basically, its 1850's - 1870's. A pity as I was hoping it may have been Gr  Grandparents which would have been late 1870's - 1890's. Who knows though, maybe its one of their parents.
I will see if I can get them scanned if it helps but that could take a few days if positive. I do know they were photo'd with a phone camera.
Many Thanks again. Jim

This reminds me of when my eldest child was on it's way nearly 60 years ago. In those days there were no scans so of course we had no idea whether we were expecting a boy or a girl. My husband called the bump Fred or Freda, but he decided it was spelt Phred or Phreda. When finally a little boy appeared, he was called Ian. I have tried to tidy them up a bit, the one with grandmother written on looks quite young if that's any help. I've put them both on the same post now.

It may be worth mentioning that pic. 1 was originally an ambrotype making it 1850's-early 60's.
It was then copied in possibly the 1870's.
She looks young so maybe someone born around 1835-45.

Yes I thought that it could be late 50s early 60s Jim as her hair is covering her ears. She looks very young maybe around 13/14 years old.

Just doodling!
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.
