William Carrigan circa 1821 Belfast
« on: Sunday 21 July 19 11:05 BST (UK) »
I am seeking information on the ancestors of William Carriagan and his wife Eleanor Argent.  William was born circa 1821 in Belfast his father being possibly Charles or Hugh.  Eleanor was born about 1823 in Hillhall, Lisburn, Co. Down (details from the England Census).  They were married in 1840 in Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England.William died in 1890 in Belfast and Eleanor died in 1893 in Belfast (I have found these on the NI website).
Regretfully my research has been unable to find any more detail before the birth days given so any help or advice will be most welcome.

The 1871 census has them living at Birchfield Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
The 1881 census has them living at Elm Road Woodhey, Higher Bebington, Wirral, Cheshire, England.
William is a Plasterer birth year 1821.
Elenor no employment birth year 1823.
The birth years are the same for both years.
Whilst ages on the census are not always accurate they make more sense with an 1840 marriage.  Clearly if the death of Elenor is correct then I have the wrong persons death.
Thanks for that.

There are no death registered for the Carragans in England after 1881 neither do they appear on the 1891 census so the plot thickens.
I still cannot find their births.

Thanks. I can't find a birth for John Edward but there is a marriage for Edward Mullholland Carrigan to Phoebe Oakden on 14 August 1881 in Liverpool (8b 221) - Edwards name is given as Carrington.

If you start by searching Belfast Cemetery site you'll find burials for Edward & others. Using that information you can then search civil records.
