James Roath - Welsh or not?
« on: Sunday 21 July 19 11:52 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I'm stuck on one of my ancestors as I can't determine where he was born. JAMES ROATH (approx 1811-?) appears in the 1941 Welsh census with his wife JANE but they married in Birmingham.

Census details as follows:

NB. He is listed as James Roeth. Hollywell, Flintshire, Wales.

James Roeth - 30 - Can't read the occupation other than what looks like the word 'wire'
Jane Roeth - 30
Mary Roeth - 4
Richard Roeth - 5
Jane Roeth - 5
George Roeth - 11 months

Only the youngest son George is listed as born in county. Which leads me to believe that the family could have moved from Birmingham to Wales, potentially.

James's marriage details to Jane are as follows:

N.B - Surname is written as Routh

James Roath & Jane Morris married in Aston on 15th November 1830.

Any help in tracing a birth for James Roath would be much appreciated. I've been unable to find him in later census records. There was a death listed in Hollywell, Flintshire in 1847 that could be him. I'd love to find out where he was born. I strongly suspect it was Birmingham but could be wrong.

Thank you!
Warwickshire, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Bridgnorth.
