Thank you once again Annette. I am amazed at these names which seems to get added on in birth certificates including my own which seem to be away of keeping a connection with a family name although they may not have married at all ? There must be a lot of these family's about the Bury st Edmunds and Portsmouth?  Any idea on what happened to my grandmother after she remarried in 1920? Many thanks  Gerry

Hi everyone, once again thank you for all the information provided. I have one request for additional information. My father I know was married twice, i have 2 step sisters from his first marriage both are now deceased. I have a photo of my father and his first wife with the 2 girls. I have never found out the name of his first wife what happened to her or when the married. Can anyone find this information out for me please. Gerry

Thought I'd found the marriage  (1936) since said marriage produced just 2 daughters BUT this couple were living in Wandsworth, London in 1960's when, from what you've said, your father was in Ireland so can't be this couple.

From what you've said about your father and his army career he could have married anywhere in the world.

Sorry I can't help more.

That may be right because he was in Belfast from 1939 to at least 1948 then was posted to Malta? I was born in Belfast 1945 . I didn't find out who my father was until 1967. I met him for the first time in 1968 on the day I married. About 1972 he married my birth mum as his first wife had passed away, He never spoke to me about her at all. So you may have found the details ok?

Since found out the man I'd found was named Charles Walter Burroughs born 1915 so definitely not your man.

In fact, there are only 2 marriages indexed for a Charles W. Burroughs - one is the Charles Walter above in 1936 and the is a Charles William married 1935 but this man wasn't born until 14/11/1912 so again not your man.

Checked every Jean Burroughs birth, noted mmn's and then checked marriages but none involved a Charles W. Burroughs (or even a William Burroughs).   So, have no idea where his first marriage took place or indeed to whom.  Sorry.

Hi everybody, a piece of additional information has been past to me by a nephew in London about my father William Burroughs. Before he finally married my mother he was married to a Mabel Raisbury who was originalyy married to a William J Mc Carthy in Norfolk in March 1922. My father married Mabel in in Feb 1934 , no information where this happened. Can anyone help with information on her first marriage ie did she have any children from that marriage etc . Many thanks Gerry
