Buckinghamshire Family History Society looks forward to helping family historians from near and far this coming
Saturday 27th July, when it takes over
The Grange School, Wendover Way, Aylesbury HP21 7NH between
10 and 4 to hold what has become firmly established as the county's major family history event.
This year's Open Day will offer four short talks by exhibitors at the show. Talks are free, on a first-come basis: at 11 the Society's Dave Foster will give an introductory talk aimed at those who are new to family history; at 12 it will be the turn of Chris and Judy Rouse of Wyvern Railway Ancestors who can offer help researching navvies to engine drivers. At 1.30 East London expert and family historian Diane Gardner will describe what can still be seen there, and why your research might benefit from one of her East London Family History Walks. Finally at 2.30 military expert Graham Bandy will describe how those military photographs can be identified and dated through details in uniform and dress.
If you've hit one of those genealogical brick walls, then expert advice will be on hand from the Centre For Buckinghamshire Studies, local and family history societies from as near or far as Grendon Underwood and Manchester. If your ancestors lived or worked in, India, fought in the first world war, were Romanies, your name is Smith or you want to get your research printed, there are exhibitors waiting to help you.
A wide range of suppliers of software, archival materials, postcards, maps and books will be waiting to cater for your needs, along with the Society's own bookstall which will carry parish register transcripts and other research aids, and a research area offering lookups from a database of over five million Buckinghamshire names. If you have an elusive ancestor, we may be able to help.
