Hi I am trying to obtain the birth certificate of my mother Muriel Grace Berry, born in South Africa, as well as her marriage certificate to Lyle Frederic Whitfield, also in South Africa. Then I am also desperately searching for the marriage certificate of my grandparents, Henry Crawford Berry to Helen [Hellen or Ellen] Ramsay Baker, who was christened Baker and also as Honman [Honnman] in South Africa.

Thank you for any assistance that can be provided.

Moyra

(SolidRock beat me to it in duplicate post https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=816242.0, but clearly I'm not the only one who would have liked a bit more info so I could have avoided doing unnecessary groundwork)

 e.g.:

Henry Crawford Berry b abt 1867 Aberdeen, d 18 May 1928 Springfield Johannesburg Tvl  (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS9P-QDM1?i=1785&cc=2520237 & https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C91P-ZQWQ-T?i=1524 )

First marriage?
X 9 Feb 1898 Johannesburg Tvl (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C91V-6Q56-2?i=2056&cc=2727134 )
To Elsie Coffey b abt 1882 VIC Australia (probably daughter of Patrick and Sabina Brook(s)bank)

X ??
Hel(l)en Ramsay Baker b 8-7-1880 Surrey UK, d 11 Aug 1960 Belgrave, Johannesburg (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C91S-69LC?i=1180&cat=2630283 )

It also helps knowing about your previous posts for this topic:

If you are looking for an official birth certificate you will need to order it from the Department of home affairs. If you want it to include details of parents you need to ask for a Vault Copy. Be aware that they are not the most efficient department and seem to require you to provide a modern Identity number for them to find the records.  There are some companies in SA that can help you to get these certificates. If your parents have passed perhaps you can provide us with their dates of births and about when they married - duplicates of marriage records are available on-line on familysearch.org - not a lot have been indexed but if you know when and where you can find them. Again if you need a certified copy you will need to get that from the relevant authorities.

Their daughter Olive Margaret Berry was born 1911-05-01 and Eileen Allanah Berry might have been born before Olive, so I assume Henry/Helen's marriage would have taken place abt 1908?

hmm I've looked through the marriage indexes for Germiston and Johannesburg for 1906-1911 and cant spot the marriage. Her DN says place of Marriage Germiston and his Johannesburg If anyone else wants to double check the indexes can be found at https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1107799?availability=Family%20History%20Library

I'd gone through the J'burg indices as well. Unfortunately 1908 seems to be missing the "B" pages for J'burg 29/4 – 14/12 (unless the pages are out of order and are hiding somewhere). Maybe there are other pages missing as well?

Unfortunately the indexes are a little tatty - but looking at the films they all appear indexed over that time period. Maybe we need to find out what religion they belonged to and look in the church records
