Morval Cornwall
« on: Saturday 27 July 19 10:19 BST (UK) »
Hi
Would someone please look at the 1851 census and check the village (hamlet)of MORVAL in Cornwall. I would like to know if the School is next to the Alms houses on the 1851 census.
Many thanks

The current Alms houses were built in 1860 and are now private houses.I have
looked at the census ,but I couldn’t see any listing for the school or alms houses specifically.

Hi, have just gone through all 45 pages for Morval in 1851 and didn't find anything with an 'Almshouse' address - maybe they had individual names.
Also wouldn't expect to find the school in the census as it was unlikely that anyone was there overnight to be enumerated.

Thanks you Pheno & NooshieW for your help

In 1861 one of the alms houses was lived in and it states school house next to these on page 18.
I was hoping to see if there was a school there in 1851 as relatives lived there and my great grandfather was at school in 1851 so I wanted to know if he went to school in the village.
NooshieW says the Alms Houses were built 1860 so I guess he was at school somewhere other than by the alms houses.
NooshieW did you get the info on where they were built from historic england?

Thank you Gadget those maps are useful. I see on the earlier map school for boys & girls now I am wondering if this an earlier school or the same mentioned on 1861

I found the information online on the Historic England site, but it states that they were ‘rebuilt’ in 1860, which implies there may have been something there beforehand.
