1861 census Amlwch
« on: Sunday 28 July 19 17:44 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if 1861 census for Amlwch is incomplete.

I have a family there in 1851. Correct name is Curry, all born Amlwch. Not 100% certain about the place name. They are still there in 1871. I`ve gone page by page through 1861 but can`t find them  and can`t find them anywhere else.

1851 Carregewrch Amlwch
John Carry  29 copper miner
 Jane Carry  27 wife
 Robert Carry  6
 David James Carry  2
 Hugh Carry  2
 James Carry  8 Mo

1871  Amlwch
Jane Curry  48 W dressmaker
 Robert Curry  24 Wesleyan minister

If you go right down the page on the 1861 Wales census search page to the 'Known problems' section -- it seems that some parishes for RG9 were missing as well as lot of part parishes for RG9.

Whether your parish fell under RG9 pieces I don't know I'm afraid. Apparantly you can check on the National Archives site. The National Archives site hates me -- I never seem to find what I want to know on it!
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

It's not listed in the missing pages listings  but I've found that sometimes a few pages might be missing

Thanks, they were in the same place in 1851 and 1871, Carregerw .... or something like that, I didn't spot it in 1861, so it seems they were missed out. There were so many districts to trawl through.

Interesting obituary of Jane Curry here (in Welsh)

https://newspapers.library.wales/view/3185580/3185582/10/curry%20AND%20amlwch

She was expelled from her chapel for marrying John Curry - a man who didn't profess any beliefs despite being the son of  a faithful Calvanist couple. The Minister described him as " a man of the world" However, she wouldn't be expelled and kept turning up at "class "  (bible study I presume) supported by another woman expelled for the same reason (the Minister's own daughter!). The third Sunday after their marriage John Curry attended chapel with her without her asking him to do so.

Not an easy life. Orphaned young (daughter of Hugh and Grace Williams, Careg Cwrnach). Her only brother died when he was 15. She lost her husband when he was 32 and buried 5 of her children, 4 as infants and a son aged 22, she moved in with Robert when he lost his wife, and was buried in the same grave as her daughter in law

That's wonderful,  thank you. They are buried in Wrexham Cemetery,  I research people buried there for their website.
I struggle with reports in Welsh,  so this is much appreciated.
