Stephen and Mary ATELL
« on: Thursday 01 August 19 15:12 BST (UK) »
This might be a real needle in a haystack. Stephen Atell and wife Mary (Brown) originally from Poland and immigrated to Canada. Don't know when. They had a dairy farm in or near Mikado Saskatchewan. Stephen had died by 1921. It looks like they had a son named Herbert who wen to WW1. I've searched Ancestry.com & Familysearch.org with not much luck. Also checked Findagrave. Nothing.

Hi Peter,

Do you know when Mary and Stephen arrived in Canada or whether or not they had any children? Have you looked at the western provinces homesteading records? I didn't see them in Ancs on the censuses records but you can have a look at them at Canada's national Archives site. Hope that helps,

No idea when they arrived in Canada. Lucy was born in 1901 and went to work for the Atells when she was young. I found a Herbert Atell on Ancestry.com but no indication if he was related.

Hi Ambly,

I am wondering if your ancestors are in either and/or the Western provinces 1916 or 1926 censuses? If Herbert fought in WW1 he is likely to be shown in the CEF records at the Canada National Archives and Library? Do you know when Stephen and Mary were born nd where? Let us know, thx.

Cheers, JDC

Puzzling - below is from the original Census

1921 - Atell Lucy b Manitoba age 19 parents noted as Polish

This is her marriage you can see it here https://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php
GROOM'S LAST NAME: PATTERSON
GROOM'S GIVEN NAMES: JOHN COZMAN
BRIDE'S LAST NAME: ATELL
BRIDE'S GIVEN NAMES: LUCY   DATE OF MARRIAGE: 28/12/1921
PLACE OF MARRIAGE: WPG
REGISTRATION NUMBER: 1921,049130
REGISTRATION DATE:

1916 Atell Delaine b America age 23, Moose Jaw SK
1911 Atell Frank b Ont age 36
1901 - none

Land Grants - none

Deaths RM273 Sliding Hills (includes Mikado) previously known as "Happy Land" - nothing on this family.

If they farmed near Mikado and died there they would be in St. Thomas Cemetery (R.C.)

WWI records none.

Above includes spelling variations which leaves thinking maybe Atell a shortened or anglicized name?

My suggestion https://www.saskarchives.com/using-archives/family-history-research and
http://www.saskgenealogy.com

Best of luck.
