Birth/Christening Anna Maria SMITH in NYC
« on: Thursday 01 August 19 15:48 BST (UK) »
Anna Maria Smith born in NYC Sept. 1830. Parents: William Smith (from NY) and Mary (from Boston Mass.  Maiden name unknown) Mary was PROTESTANT. Family stories claim that Wm. Smith was a pharmacist and owned 2 pharmacies in NYC but this could be folklore!
The Smiths left NY for Texas by 1831. Maybe there is a ship passenger list with their names ? I have several ship names that went to Texas in 1830's but so far no passenger lists. The Smiths probably bought land scrip from one of the New York based land companies selling acreage in Texas. The Galveston Bay & Texas Land Company and the Union Land Company were the two main ones. I've checked all Texas sources but courthouse fires lost a LOT of documents in 1870's. The NY land scrip was NOT acceptable in Mexican Texas.
