Calendar of Patent Rolls of James I
« on: Thursday 01 August 19 20:03 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for what Logainme.ie calls the "Calendar of Patent Rolls of James I."  I have not had any luck finding a searchable volume, so far.

Right now, I am interested in the following years: 1603, 1611, 1622. And the 17th year of reign of King James I.  (1620, or is it 1619?  Or both?)

I was hoping someone had better technique and could point me to the right link.

Okay, I see Volume 10, which contains the year 1622, but I am scratching my head on how to use it.

Logainme gives:
1622 Braghollae Killnecarrigeh Derribratten and Killnecurreh    CPR, 542

What does this 542 refer to?  It isn't the page number.

Maybe, it's the wrong book?  I guess it would probably say "Ireland" on it, or something...

I've found this:
Calendar of the state papers, relating to Ireland, of the reign of James I. 1603-1625. Preserved in Her Majesty's Public Record Office, and elsewhere

https://archive.org/details/cu31924091770846/page/n169

It looks like it has the right format, with numbers in a similar range, but unfortunately does not seem to be what I am looking for either.

I don't think State Papers would normally include Patent Rolls.

You probably won't find a Calendar of Patent Rolls for James I online – you’ll probably need an academic research library. If you’re in the UK or Ireland, you can use LibraryHub to find out which academic libraries hold the relevant volumes. Perhaps some of the items listed here are what you want?

Yes, I think you are right, Bookbox.

From what I can tell, they are under copyright or something.  Only available in a library.

"Irish patent rolls issued by James I and housed in the Public Record Office of Ireland were transcribed in the 19th century and published in 1960 by the Irish Manuscripts Commission"

From what I can tell, halmark, there is a bifurcation, between Irish papers and British ones.

There were a few Irish volumes, like the Tudor Fiants published in the 1800s, but apparently they never got around to doing the Patent Rolls of James I until about 1960.  I'm still surprised it isn't online though.  I mean, aren't those public records, published by government employees?  Seems kind of crazy.
