2nd King Edward Horse
« on: Saturday 03 August 19 18:04 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I recently found a few pieces of information on a well known web-site regarding a Richard Trotter Raw.  On typing the information up I think I may have confused two different men. The information I have is as follows:
Reg. No. 61195 L/Cpl 2nd King Edward Horses it then said 2060 Pte (He can't be both!)
Discharged: 392 (xixa) Commission NW/S/10378  IVX 3004  d/24.9.1924 NW/3/10378
Medals returned undelivered
Re-issued: IVRI/1247  10.11.1924

I then found a Medal Card
Richard Trotter Raw King Edward Horse Pte  2060
Northumberland Fusiliers  L/Cpl 61196
R.A.C or R.C.C ( I couldn't make it out)  2/Lieu
On Rt Roll 0/1/105 B58 (20/14093 Comm
Victory Medal
British War Medal
France 27.4.1917
Address: 7 Charterhouse, EC1
That is all the information I have except the Richard Trotter Raw I'm interested in was born in Askrigg in 1898. If anybody can decode all the above letters and numbers and give me any information on whether I have the right man or not I would be grateful.
Thank you
Louise

To put it in order.

He served first with 2nd King Edwards Horse with the number 2060
He transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers with the number 61196
He was commissioned into the Royal Flying Corps (not the Royal Artillery - it has been mis transcribed on Ancestry) on 9 March 1918 (London Gazette 16 March 1918)
To be commissioned a man is discharged under the paragraph given (but continues immediately in the service).
On 1 April 1918 the RFC (and the Royal Naval Air Service) became the Royal Air Force so he is now in the RAF.

As an officer, his service records for the Great War are held at the National Archives:
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=richard+trotter+raw
one for the Royal Flying Corps and the other for the RAF.

His date of birth is given on his RFC record as 11 August 1897.

As his name is fairly uncommon, it is probably the same man appointed temporary Pilot Officer in 1939, confirmed in rank ob 8 Oct 1940  and Flying Officer ilater.  His records for WW2 will still be with the Ministry of Defence.

Thank you, from a few bits of (to me meaningless information) you have put together a man's service career.  I am now sure it is the same man as the date of birth is the same and not many men will have Trotter as a middle name (his mother's maiden name).  You have given me a lot to carry of information to help me carry on researching him. Thank you again, Louise

Hi, I don't know if anyone is still active on this page, but I was wondering whether you could help me.

I am curious as to who/why someone was researching Richard Trotter Raw as he is my Great Grandfather.

I am currently trying to find out more information about him/ his life and more specifically his military record and i would love to hear from you.

Many thanks,

Becky

The person researching your man has not been active here for a couple of months.  You can send them a Personal Message once you have made a total of three posts.  Suggest you answer this one then make a third post with another plea for help, sticking to the same thread.  Then check out how to send a PM to Coxon who started the thread in 2019.
