There’s quite a lot of newspaper coverage of the murder spree of Gordon Cummings (who was hanged in June 1942).  Perhaps that is the subject of the OP’s book?

Yes there are quite a number of newspaper reports avm.  He was hanged on the 25th June according to quite a few of the papers.

I wonder what happened in his life that made him commit these murders?  Not something we are going to know after all this time.

Yes, it is Cummins that I am researching. Police believed Margaret was Margaret Florence Campbell Lowe, born in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. But they did not seem able to confirm her exact date of birth, so maybe there was some mystery about her origins.

Did you ever get a copy of the marriage certificate?

The initials are correct to be Margaret Florence Campbell Lowe but it should show her father's name for confirmation and if you're lucky have some other information of use
Also it will confirm if BURCHETT was her birth name; she may have been a widow
