Help please I would like to find out more about Robert Tubbs or Tubby
« on: Tuesday 06 August 19 16:05 BST (UK) »
In 1799 Robert Tubbs married Mary Chase in St Nicholas, Yarmouth, both were single and "of this parish" though Mary was born in Ormesby St Margaret in 1775.  They had 3 daughters in Caister on Sea, Mary (my 3x grandmother) born 1801 and twins Jane and Elizabeth who were born and died in 1804.
The birth and death records for the girls give the surname as Tubby whereas the marriage is clearly Tubbs. (I thought it may be a transcription error but I have checked the original records on-line and it is clearly Tubby in Caister and Tubbs in Yarmouth).
I am certain I have the correct couple, Mary's surname, Chase is on the birth records.
Mary Tubbs/ Tubby married John Dale and went on to name two of her children Robert Chase Dale and Sarah Tubbs Dale.
I haven't been able to find any birth or death records for Robert Tubbs/Tubby or a death record for his wife Mary. (They are not the Robert and Mary Tubby buried in Hopton, I tried to claim them but they belong to another family!)
I wonder if anyone can find any records for Robert, I would like to know more about him. I did find a Yarmouth baptism in 1748 but that would make him  51 when he married.
All suggestions gratefully received!

The name Tubby seems more likely than Tubbs when using soundex.

On Freereg.

Robert TUBBY   Baptism   13 Feb 1780   Norfolk   Morley St Peter : St Peter : father Robert

A number of possible births for  Mary on Freereg in Norfolk.

No deaths on the GRO site 1837 – 1851 in Norfolk so likely died earlier, plenty on family search but no detail, none seem likely on freereg.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Could he have gone into the Royal Navy, hence the family switching to Devon?
On TNA website there are some records in ADM 27 - Navy Board, and Admiralty, Accountant General's Department: Registers of Allotments and Allotment Declarations

Robert Tubbs; Ship's name: HMS Hindoostan; Pay book number: SB 204; Rank: Quartergunner; Relation: Wife Mary; When Alloted: 1801; Remarks: blank.

Robert Tubbs; Ship's name: HMS London; Pay book number: SB 458; Rank: Able Seaman; Relation: Wife Mary; When Allotted: 1805; Remarks: discharged 14 June 1809 to HMS Euryalus.

Robert Tubbs; Ship's name: HMS Euryalus; Pay book number: SB 581; Rank: Able Seaman; Relation: Wife Mary; When Allotted: 1809; Remarks: discharged (no date given) unserviceable.

Images probably online somewhere.
Second and third records are linked at any rate!
John

That first one, Hindoostan, has a residence on it, something like No. Yarm.
Yarm may be abbreviated, ending with some very tiny upper letter.
Could it mean Norfolk Yarmouth? :-\
