I'm so confused and I need some help.
« on: Tuesday 06 August 19 20:28 BST (UK) »
Hi there I am so confused right now that I need your help.
A good few years back I took a DNA test on myHeritage and a good few months ago I took anther dna test on 23andme.

Well today I got this email from a woman claiming to be my cousin and she gave me the address and I no that my grand mother Renna voilet hamerton was from Bethnal Green and I already have asked a family member on my nans side of the family bit they told me they never heard of the name Irene or of the address.

This is the copy of the email that I got today.

Hello, I’m contacting you as I see we are close cousin’s. I am trying to find who my great grandfather was.
My grandfather was born in Bethnal Green in April 1936. My great Grandmother was Irene Katie Jenkins and lived at 39 approach road at the time my grandfather was born. She lived with a Russian family, the Farby’s.
I was wondering if you knew of any connection that is related to this. After doing my grandfathers dna we know he is 50% European which must be his father.

Thank you,
Natalie.

That's the email I got today so as you probably can imagine I'm so confused right now that I just need some help please thank you.

It reads like she has illegitimacy in her line,
So if you know nothing of her female line, it logically is the male line where the cousin-ship comes from.
She is trying to find out what male relative(s) of yours there might be the unknown father.

Hi

Simply put, ask her for how ( other than dna ) the connection works?

If you cannot find her on the sites you have tested at then you should ask her to send a screen shot of the match. Better to wait until you know the size of the shared DNA. You can then approach the analysis based on potential relationships that are consistent with the match size.
